AWARDS COMMITTEE (Lee Hondronicols)

The Awards Committee meets to discuss both District and Provincial Awards. District Awards are presented at the Spring Annual Meeting Luncheon. These awards recognize long service to the District and may include members who are retiring from Committee and/or Executive responsibilities.

Provincial Awards include the Distinguished Member Award for service at the District and/or Provincial level and the Founding Member Award for service at the Provincial level.

Districts have the opportunity to submit suggestions for both of the Provincial Awards.

TOURS COMMITTEE (Phyllis Doyle)

The Tours Committee meets twice a year usually in April and October to discuss suggestions for tours. These meetings take place at Louie’s Restaurant in Burlington near the Royal Botanical Gardens. The next meeting is set for Monday October 18th, 2010 starting at 10:30 a.m. All members are welcome to attend. Bring your suggestions for tours. Please contact Phyllis Doyle at 905 632-8302 to indicate your attendance. Jim Wilson, the District Webmaster, prepares the Tours brochure/bulletin when all tours are finalized.

RECREATION (Jutta Busch)

Events and workshops are planned for both the spring and fall. These may include theatre presentations, special trips and art-themed workshops. Information can be found in the newsletters.

NEWSLETTER (Helen Szydlowski)

Our District 13 Newsletter, the Thirteenth World, is published five times a year: January, February Tours Edition Series A, March, June Tours Edition Series B and September.

After a draft copy of each newsletter is prepared, the Editorial Committee meets to review the submissions for the newsletter. Please be in contact with Helen Szydlowski at 905 388-0146 if you wish to assist.

DISTRICT MEETINGS COMMITTEE (Helen Szydlowski, Joanne Weeks)

The District Meetings Committee organizes our spring and fall luncheons including setting dates, locations, menus, speakers/entertainment and set-up on these special occasions. They are also on hand to “Meet and Greet” at all District functions e.g. Retirement Receptions and Retirement Planning Workshops. Let us know if you would like to assist in any way. If you have suggestions for speakers/entertainment or meeting locations do not hesitate to be in touch. 905 692-5754 (Joanne). Our next event is the Fall Luncheon at Carmen’s on Nov. 2nd , 2010. CURLING BONSPIEL (Ken Drake)

An RTO/ERO District 13 Bonspiel is held once/ year at the Dundas Valley Golf and Curling Club. The date of November 9th, 2010 has been set. If you would like to assist on the Bonspiel Planning Committee please be in contact with Ken Drake at 905 389-6207. There will be further information concerning registration in upcoming newsletters.

GOLF TOURNAMENTS (Jim Wilson)

Golf Tournaments are held two times per year at Knollwood Golf Course in Ancaster. Set aside September 8th, 2010 for the Fall Tournament. If you would like to assist or participate, please be in contact with Jim Wilson at 905 522-2569.

MEMBERSHIP/ RECRUITMENT (Joanne Weeks)

An annual Retirement Reception is held in early fall to celebrate and honour recent retirees. This has been scheduled for September 30th, 2010 at the Waterfront Centre in Hamilton commencing at 10:30 a.m. There will be a meeting followed by a luncheon. There is no cost to prospective members but we do need to know who will be attending. More information will be available in the June 2010 Newsletter and at local school buildings/administrative offices. Contact Joanne Weeks at 905 692-5754 for further information. Spread the word to anyone who may have recently retired or is doing so in the next few months.

A Retirement Planning Workshop is scheduled for November 24th, 2010 at the Waterfront Centre. Learn about Retired Teachers of Ontario as well as about our excellent Health Plan. Further details will be available in local school buildings/administrative offices closer to the date. Spread the word to anyone who is thinking of retiring within the next two years.
