Retired Teachers of Ontario (Hamilton-Wentworth Haldimand) presented the $4000 “Service to Others” cheque to Louise Dompierre, the President and C.E.O. of the Art Gallery of Hamilton, at a recent opening of a new exhibit. This grant will assist with the summer art program/camp “Art Without Barriers” for needy art students ages 8-12.
The camp takes place at the Art Gallery of Hamilton during a week in August and the Art educators involved are hoping to have up to 20 students attend. The Hamilton-Wentworth Haldimand District added $300 to the RTO/ERO Provincial “Service to Others” grant for a grand total of $4000. These funds will be used to purchase art materials, provide meals and snacks during the camp and for each student to have a “takehome” art kit at the conclusion of the camp.
Presenting the cheque were District 13 Service to Others Committee members Tom Pettigrew (Chair) and Rita Mauro as well as Past President Joanne Weeks. Also in attendance were District 13 members Helen Szydlowski, Lee Hondronicols, Marilyn Hill and Jan Lukas.
