Approximately four times a year members of District 13 have the opportunity and privilege to assist at Citizenship Court in Hamilton. We provide and serve refreshments to our new Canadian citizens. A reception is held in the lobby of the courtroom after the oath of citizenship is taken and individual certificates are presented. We also have the opportunity to address the group and offer congratulations. The singing of ‘O Canada’ is one of the most moving parts of the whole ceremony.

Thank you to all RTO/ERO District 13 members who attended Remembrance Day services across our district to honour those men and women who served in our Armed Forces in the past and who are now serving our country in such a distinguished way.
You could be a Roots of Empathy Instructor!
Roots of Empathy is a program for children in kindergarten to grade 8. The program’s aim is to increase empathy – the ability to understand another person’s feelings.
The heart of the program is a parent and infant who visit the classroom once a month for the full school year. Children learn to care and respect each other resulting in less bullying and aggression.
The ROE Instructor:
The Roots instructor coaches the children to observe the baby’s development, celebrate milestones, interact with the baby and learn about an infant’s needs. The instructor also visits the classroom before and after each baby visit to prepare and reinforce teachings, using a specialized curriculum that is developmentally appropriate for each of four age ranges, kindergarten (JK/SK), primary (1-3), junior (4-6) and intermediate (7-8).
As an instructor you commit to 4 days of mandatory training, 3 – 40 minute classroom visits per month from October to June, preparation of lesson materials, travel time and must be comfortable presenting to children in a classroom setting.
There is no cost to the volunteer instructor for the training; however the cost to the program is $3000 per person. Due to this investment we ask instructors to make a three year commitment to the program.
